"Same block. New curse. Old money."

A teaser trailer has been released for Freeridge, an all-new comedy series that serves as a spinoff of On My Block. The spinoff will follow a new core group of four youths as a coming of age story, exploring all-new storylines and characters after On My Block ended its run on Netflix in 2021. Freeridge will be hitting Netflix on Feb. 2, 2023, and to get a sneak peek, you can check out the below teaser.

Lauren Inungerich serves as showrunner and co-created the series with fellow executive producers Jamie Uyeshiro, Eddie Gonzalez, Jeremy Haft, and Jamie Dooner. The series stars Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Gloria), Bryana Salaz (Ines), Tenzing Norgay Trainor (Cam), Ciara Riley Wilson (Demi), and Peggy Blow in a new series regular role. Also featured are Michael Solomon, Zaire Adams, J.R. Villarreal, and Jean Paul San Pedro with Paula Garcés, Eric Gutierrez, Eme Ikwuakor, and Raushanah Simmons reprising their roles from On My Block

Freeridge Will Feel Familiar But Different to On My Block Fans

“Both shows rely heavily on mystery to drive the story. And both shows have series-long mythologies," Iungerich said of the new series, via Netflix's Tudum.

Introducing the new core gropu, Iungerich added, "Fans should know that the new core four of Freeridge don’t step into the shoes of our original crew. They step into their own shoes, right alongside the legacy of the kids who came before them. Through the lens of this new group of friends, we’ll see Freeridge as we know it and also explore a Freeridge we haven’t seen before. Where On My Block was driven by the boys, Freeridge is being driven by the girls."

But new fans won't need to go back and watch all four seasons of On My Block to enjoy Freeridge. The spinoff is separate enough to be enjoyed on its own. Fans of the previous show may appreciate the references and Easter eggs, but Freeridge offers its own self-contained story that its creators hope will bring renewed attention to On My Block.

"New viewers can enjoy the show as is," the showrunner explained. "But we have laid in lots of On My Block insider nuggets for the die-hard fans. We truly hope our On My Block audience connects with this new crew, and we also hope that new fans of the franchise will want to check out where the world started with On My Block. We’re hoping that in success, Freeridge might give some new life to our beloved firstborn Freeridge-set show.

Freeridge, which consists of eight 30-minute episodes, will start streaming on Feb. 2, 2023, only on Netflix.
